Impressive shade study of several important issues; 64 stamps neatly laid out on homemade pages showing ranges of differing inks used to produce each issue starting with imperforate 3-cent 1851s in shades ranging from orange brown to the scarcer plum shades; two choice 24-cent 1857s: #37 in the grey lilac shade and 37TC6, the scarce red lilac shade that used to be known to philatelists as Scott #37b, and is accompanied by 1994 PF certificate; the 1861s begin with the challenging 1-cent value, Scott #63, 8 examples ranging from ultramarine to deep blue, with every shade in between; you'll find 10 examples of the 3-cent value including a #64 pink, an unused 64b rose pink with 1994 PF certificate, and eight shades of #65; the 5-cent Jefferson includes examples of #67 buff, 67a brown yellow, 75 red brown (close to fire engine red), 76 brown and 76a black brown; there are six 24-cents including #70 red lilac, brown lilac, grey, #78 lilac and dark lilac shades; there are three handsome 90-cent Washington's, Scott #72, in the pale blue, blue and dark blue shades; the 1894 and 1895 Bureau issues include Scott #275 and 275a, plus a used #277a in the dark blue shade; 1898 new colors include #279B in the carmine, rose carmine, red and orange shades; you'll find all three 4-cent shades of #280, including rose brown, scarcer lilac brown and the more common orange brown shades; finally the 6-cent value includes the normal lake shade, #282, plus the seldom-seen purplish lake and claret shades that rarely appear on the market; this collection would be nearly impossible to duplicate and is a wonderful color study of the wide range of inks used to produce these stamps.
