7618   imageConfederate States, [Amherst Co.] Amhert Court House, brown "SEP 1" Amherst C.H. struck twice in error - one light but clear, the other incomplete - with matching oblong boxed "PAID" on a folded letter datelined Oct 5, 1861, to Richmond; the Postmaster then applied an "Amherst C Ho, Oct 6" manuscript postmark correcting the date; the writer submits a bill which he hopes will be paid right away as "nothing can be had about here…without the cash and that is hard to get".
