9049   image[Michigan] Jackson, Novelty Manufacturing Co., a marvelous illustrated advertising cover picturing a 15-Car Freight Train, the "Largest Single Shipment of Oil Stoves Ever Made", on a 2¢ green entire (U318) to Zurich, Switzerland uprated with a 2¢ carmine (267) canceled by a Jackson, Mich. flag cancel, Jan 20, 1899; the 1¢ stamp which made up the 5¢ rate was canceled by a Jackson duplex handstamp, but apparently fell off during transit, resulting in the cover being charged 2 centimes Postage Due and a 50¢ Swiss Postage Due was added and canceled at Zurich on Feb 3; a Swiss Due is damaged, but otherwise the cover is Very Fine and quite attractive. 9051   image[Michigan] Lexington, Civil War patriotic cover, mostly clear Aug 2 c.d.s. on a Liberty & Flag cover (L-2350, Weiss F-F-168) to Detroit franked with a tied by a target cancel; stamp with damaged corner, cover lightly toned, otherwise Fine. Included is an interesting letter from A.P.S. Hall of Fame collector, Adolph Steeg, to a Mr. Karl Koslowski in Detroit. In the letter, Mr. Steeg "educates" Mr. Koslowski on the relative value of some more-common Pan-American Exposition covers and apparently enclosed this pristine cover as a gift, though no mention of it is made in the letter.
