9259 E 1302 imageCzechoslovakia, 1965, 2Kcs Women's Gymnastics, original artwork of unadopted design (Scott 1302), on cardstock, approximately 90 x 151 mm, an early proposal by A. Pdozemná, the designer of the issued stamp, in pencil and wash. The original rough sketch in pencil still visible, with various changes already present in the brown and gold watercolors used to flesh out the design. An example of the issued stamp (hinge remnant) is included, showing just how different a final design can be from a first thought. The artwork's face is pristine; prior mounting residue present at top reverse. The artwork also bears a two-line handstamp "návrh/POFIS" on reverse.
