743 cF image1895 (July 2) Jules Renard & Co linen-backed large-part parcel front pre-addressed to the firm's office in Antwerp, Belgium with printed endorsement 'Per first Orient or P. & O. Co's S.S.' to which has been added "Britannia/via Adelaide & Italy" in manuscript, rare solo franking of Stamp Duty 5/- claret tied by Melbourne duplex, slightly trimmed into printing at base. Proper postal usages of the higher-value Stamp Duty issues are scarce. At this time, the parcel rates to the UK via Italy were 2/- for the first 1lb plus 6d per each additional 1lb; we are unsure whether these or other rates applied for mail to Belgium.
