1868-79 Perf 11½-12½ '3-PENCE' on 4d deep ultramarine as SG 68 but Overprinted Twice One Vertical (at Right), unusually well centred, small concealed fault & repaired lower corners, GPO cds. This oddity, of which
we have seen one other example, may have been an Overprint Trial. The word 'PENCE' - although partly off the stamp - is in a significantly larger font on the vertical overprint, which is 18½mm long compared with only 12½mm on the standard
(horizontal) surcharge. Necessarily offered "as is" at a nominal estimate. Grade (B) (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 Perf 11½-12½ 'TEN PENCE' in Black on 9d yellow-orange as SG 79 but Imperforate, margins large to huge with fragments of the adjoining units above & below & the huge margin at left indicating it is from the
left of the sheet, GPO cds. A larger stamp & with better-balanced margins than Don Pearce's example (noted as "the only recorded example") that sold for $4070. Necessarily offered "as is", but the sheer size of the stamp causes us to share Don
Pearce's and our vendor's confidence that it is a genuine imperforate error, that is unlisted by Gibbons. Grade A (Image1) (Image2)

1868-79 Perf 11½-12½ 'TEN PENCE' in Black on 9d yellow-orange as SG 79 but Perf 11½-12½ at the Top Only, Perf 10 at the Base and Imperf Vertically with a chunk of the adjoining unit at right and additionally
Rouletted at the Top, minor red-pencil mark on the face, Adelaide duplex. An extraordinary stamp that doesn't conform to any of the Gibbons listings. We suggest that it is a genuine, and previously unrecorded, separation trial that was, perhaps
inadvertently, issued to the public about 1880, which is when the Adelaide duplex cancellations were introduced. Necessarily offered "as is". Grade A

1891-93 Surcharges '2½d.' in Red on Perf 10 4d green with Fraction Bar Omitted SG 229a in horizontal pair with normal, characteristic irregular perfs, light cds cancel clear of the variety, very scarce & grossly
underpriced at £80. Absent from Gary Diffen's and Don Pearce's collections. Note that this error occurred only in the first Perf 10 printing of the '2½d' on 4d stamps. Therefore, SG 229ba and 233a cannot exist, and should be deleted from the
catalogue.

1902-04 Tall Stamps with Thin 'POSTAGE' 1/- brown with 'POSTAGE' & 'ONE SHILLING' in Brown-Red ACSC S30A (SG 275c), an obvious example of the bicolour, superb 'PARCEL PO ADELAIDE/DE20/02/S-A' cds, Cat $2000
(£1400). Although often regarded as an error, the bicolour stamps are from the initial run of the first printing, and should thus be catalogued as SG 275, not 275c. During the print-run, the colour discrepancy was noted and corrected: see Bill Purves
at page 88 where he states that it "...may be regarded as approaching the status of an error". Ex Ed Williams (New York) - sold at our auction of 26.1.2002 for $1470 - & Wolfgang Kielmann. In more recent times, our best result was $838 in our auction
of 5.8.2021. This example is far more attractive than that stamp. RPSofV Certificate (2001). [The Illustration is above Lot 659]
