Ex Dr Cecil Walkley (2007) & Trevor Hiscock: sold at our auction of 8.11.2013 for $1630.

763 og/nh image1895 Surcharges 'Half-penny' in Green on 3d cinnamon with Double Overprint SG 110b block of 4, minor perf-reinforcing, large-part o.g. & the lower-left unit is unmounted, Cat £6800++, for mounted singles. A desirable multiple of this striking error. [Gary Diffen had only a vertical pair, with the first impressions underinked. On this block, all the impressions are of similar intensity]

Rare. Ex Cecil Walkley and Trevor Hiscock: sold at our auction of 22.2.2013 for $535.

765 P image1898-1907 W[crown]A Wmk 6d die proof in black on surfaced card (92x60mm) with handstamps '9DEC96' in blue & 'BEFORE/HARDENING' ACSC W2DP(1)A, light bend clear of the stamp impression, Cat $3000 (2004). Rare: only a few have been recorded. Ex Trevor Hiscock: sold at our auction of 22.2.2013 for $1515. [Although the 6d was proofed in 1896 and printed in 1897, the entire printing was held in reserve until October 1906, making this a Commonwealth-period issue. Dr Cecil Walkley's superb example sold at our auction of 14.4.2005 for $2530]

774 PSE imagePOSTAL CARDS: 1905 Provisional Issue 1d deep blue with Admonition "Available only for the Commonwealth..." handstamped 'ALSO AVAILABLE FOR UNITED KINGDOM WITHOUT EXTRA POSTAGE.' in violet PC12, a couple of very minor blemishes, unused. [These provisional cards were produced in very small numbers: Brian Pope estimates that 240 each of the ½d & 1d were produced & a mere 50 of the 1d+1d Reply Card. Most examples seen of any of these rare cards are defective. Margaret Hamilton's examples of the ½d (uprated) and 1d unused (as here) & 1d used, sold at our auction of 30.3.1999 for $6875, $7150 & $7975 respectively. Her unused 1d+1d sold at the same auction for $8250. They were all acquired by the same buyer who, it is believed, intends to donate his collection to an institution]
