TPOs 20 & 21: Manuscript cancellations in indelible pencil comprising "TPO/Down/[part-date]", "D Train/21.8.94" & "Up Train/20.4.94" each on Stamp Duty 2d violet. Ex JRW Purves and Roy Holland: sold for £180.

The Melbourne-Port Albert Line was completed by January 1892 but Molnar & Waugh at page 147 state TPO services didn't commence until 1898. However, by mid-1894 de facto TPO 20 & 21 services were operating, using mss markings. Les Molnar states #20 & 21 were shelved because of belt-tightening during the catastrophic Depression of the mid-1890s.

1864-79 Crown/CC Perf 12½ 2d mauve Error of Colour SG 55b with clipped perfs at upper-left, 'PERTH/JA28/1879/ =WESTERN-AUSTRALIA=' cds, Cat £15,000. A budget-priced example of this popular rarity. Ex 'Tamiami'. [Stanley Gibbons acquired a half-sheet of 60 from the Albany post office. That purchase probably accounts for most, if not all, the mint/unused examples. Used stamps are much scarcer, despite having a significantly lower valuation in Gibbons. Mogens Juhl recorded four examples cancelled at Perth on 28.1.1879, of which this stamp is one]

1902-11 V/Crown the unique complete set of die proofs in issued colours on ungummed unwatermarked paper & Line Perf 12½, comprising 8d (tiny thin spot), 9d, 10d (perfs trimmed at left), 2/- (a couple of trimmed perfs at the base), 2/6d (a couple of trimmed perfs at the top), 5/- & 10/- (tiny thin spots), the 9d 2/- & 2/6d with part-Papermaker's Watermark, each with manuscript "X" cancel, Cat $37,500. Each stated by the ACSC to be unique! Individual Chris Ceremuga Certificates (2016) each state "...the only such example recorded".

The ACSC states "...possibly pulls from the zinc dies". In our opinion, there is no doubt about these items being die proofs. They were produced in Melbourne, where the same technique of perforating die proofs was employed for all values up to the KEVII £1 & £2.
