SWEDEN: 1941 Swedish International Press Bureau covers from Stockholm to Sydney 1) at 3kr05 rate sent 10.4.1941 with '27APR41/SOR/BAGHDAD' transit b/s and red triangular Iraqi censor cachet on face; 2) at 1kr30 rate sent 15.4.1941 with Baghdad '30APR41' b/s & black triangular censor cachet; and 3) at 3kr05 rate sent 26.4.1941 with Baghdad '11MAY41' b/s and violet circular censor cachet, a few blemishes & one with closed tears. A remarkable trio.

On 1.4.1941 the 'Iraqi Revolt' replaced the British Regent with a pro-Nazi regime with a view to seeking full independence. Their seige in early May of the Lake Habbaniyah RAF base used by Imperial Airways/BOAC disrupted this service until British troops put down the Revolt. These three items had presumably been carried by rail to Iraq where they were held & censored by the Nationalists, but later recovered and forwarded when service resumed.
