Philatelic Foundation (1978) & BPA (2008) Certificates. [Despite the unfortunate centring, this is one of the finest examples of this rare stamp that we have seen. 1897 Diamond Jubilee die proofs on thin white card reduced to a bit larger than stamp size & affixed to separate pieces of incused yellowish card (each 58x64mm) comprising 1d in deep violet & in carmine-pink, 2d in deep violet, in brown & in myrtle-green, and 2½d in deep violet, in deep blue, in brown & in myrtle-green. Apparently from the printer's records. Superb! Ex Sir Gawaine Baillie: sold for $3450. [These may appear to have been excised from the famous triptych proofs. However, the sharpness of the impressions indicates that these are true die proofs] (9 proofs)

(the lower pair being very lightly mounted), Cat £19,000+. One of the great errors of New South Wales. Ex John White & 'Besancon' (III) where stated that only three blocks of four are recorded. 1899 Chalk-Surfaced Paper Arms 1d block of 12 (2x6) the right-hand units all Imperforate Three Sides SG 300a, minor gum-bends & a little soiled in the margin at top, Cat £3600++ for three blocks of 4. A major error. Ex Guy Hutson. [Gibbons record this error only in the 'scarlet' printing as SG 300a. However, this block & Hutson's three other perf error blocks are all in a deep rose-pink shade]

1899 Chalk-Surfaced Paper Arms 1d rose-carmine left-hand pane of 60 (6x10) completely Imperforate SG 301a with full marginal inscriptions at top & left and the three 'monograms' at the base, a few very minor blemishes & a patch of toning about the size of a 1c piece in the margin by Row 4 otherwise very fine with full unmounted o.g., Cat £8250++ (for mounted pairs). A spectacular block that is almost certainly the largest surviving multiple of this error. Ex 'Besancon' (II): sold for SFr4800.
