1926 Pacific Islands Survey Flight per Group Captain Richard Williams return sector from Tulagi to Rabaul (New Guinea) AAMC #102var, printed 'THE RESIDENCY/TULAGI/...' in blue on the flap & endorsed
"Aerial Mail" at upper-left, repaired opening fault at the top. A great rarity of Australian & Pacific Islands pioneer airmail covers. Sergio Sismondo Certificate (2006). [Plus four 1930s Australian flight covers]
As stated in the AAMC, the majority of the 50 covers were "flown the entire route" from Melbourne & return, but several outward intermediates are recorded. However, this apparently official cover, from the Government Resident in
Tulagi to the Australian judge in Rabaul, is the only one recorded from a return sector. [Tom Frommer's outward & inwards - from Papua - illustrated covers sold at Mossgreen's auction of 4.4.2017 for $15,600 & $13,800 respectively]
