Worldwide Public Auction: Stamps, Postal History & Picture Postcards - August 31, 2019

Abacus Auctions Sale 237 of Australia, Australian Colonies & Worldwide Stamps, Postal History, Postal Stationery & Picture Postcards will be held on Saturday 31 August 2019 offers. With this sale we are celebrating Gary Watson’s 40th Anniversary of Involvement in Stamp Auctions, and it is fitting that we do so with a bumper auction of 1,800+ lots and A$1.8+ Million in Estimates.

Part I - The ‘Eureka’ Collection of Australian Colonies Stamps & Postal History
This offers a wide range of material from starter collections & accumulations to magnificent proofs, largest-known multiples (including many complete sheets), connoisseur quality singles, fascinating errors, quirky little gems (with Estimates starting from A$100), superb postal stationery; the list goes on and on. Every Colony/State is well-represented. A highlight of the auction is the most comprehensive and finest array of Specimen and CTO material since Bill McCredie’s impressive collection was sold eight years ago. Many of Bill’s gems resurface here, along with numerous items that he was never able to obtain.

Part II - Australian Commonwealth & Rest of the World
The Australia begins with an exceptional offering of Kangaroos starting with essays right through to the delightful CofA Wmk £2 imprint block of 4, followed by extensive KGV Heads & Pre-Decimals featuring multiples & varieties, a superb 5/- Bridge First Day Cover as well as unique Parish covers, concluding with postal history and picture postcards. The fine array of Specimen and CTO material in the ‘Eureka’ sale continues here with a wonderful selection of material from all around the British Commonwealth including Australia. Juxtaposed with this is a significant part of the collection of Worldwide Airmails to Australia formed by Rod Perry. Both these offerings have been grouped together in the middle of the sale rather than being dispersed amongst individual country headings, so that they can be fully appreciated. Rest of the World features New Guinea (including GRI) & Papua rarities, Pacific Islands & Asia postal history and even rare Swaziland aerogrammes. In addition to the many exceptional single items, there are once again hundreds of collections & accumulations waiting for your perusal, ranging from small groups through to box lots and capped off with an 18-carton worldwide dealer stock all written up on stockcards.

(We stop accepting absentee bids at SAN on August 30 at 18:00 EDT)
