137 image 1883-O BU Roll (20 coins) all beautiful white MS60 to 63 w/ heavier toning on the two end coins. Released sporadically from the time it was minted, the 1883-O was never a scarce date. Bowers estimates that about 2 million were added to the existing number during the great 1962-1964 Treasury dispersal. But in the ensuing decades most ORIGINAL bags and rolls have been broken up rendering most rolls on the market today "put-together". The coins rarely have matching characteristics. But this roll IS original - the coins all look the same - flashy white uncs w/ average bagmarks and toned end coins. The consignor obtained them in the early 1970s. They essentially haven't been touched for the last 50 years. (Image) (imageb)

138 image 1898-O BU Roll (20 coins) all beautiful white MS60 to 63 w/ a bit of toning on the two end coins. The history of the 1898-O is an interesting one. Never released for circulation, it was a very rare date prior to 1962, and the Red Book valued it at $300 in mint state, which was double the price of an 1889-CC! Then came the 1960's Treasury release and perhaps as many a million shiny, new 1898-O Morgans entered commercial channels. It is interesting to note that because so few were known before the release, the 1898-O is one of the five scarcest Morgan Dollars in CIRCULATED condition (the others being 1884-CC, 1885-CC, 1903-O, & 1904-O.) Finding one with any appreciable wear is nearly impossible. But because mint state coins are so common, the value of a circulated 1898-O is driven down to only a small amount over bullion.
