113 image 1893 AU lustrous and reflective. The 1893 is a scarce issue in the Morgan series (mintage of only 378,000) as Grover Cleveland, elected president for a second time in 1892, carried out his campaign promise to repeal the Sherman Silver Purchase Act which drastically reduced silver dollar output for 1893 thru 1895. 116 image 1899 PCI MS63. The low-mintage 1899-P has been an enigma in numismatic circles for years. The official mintage of 330,000 pieces is only about one-twentieth of the surrounding years from the Philly mint. The coin, though scarce overall, is more available than this ratio might suggest. Wayne Miller, author of the Morgan and Peace Dollar Textbook, has opined that a significant number of 1899 dollars may have been struck in 1900 (and counted as part of the 1900 mintage) due to the difficulty the mint would encounter changing the date on any existing working dies of 1899 to 1900. (This could have been the case for other mints as well.) However, any concrete evidence of this practice has not survived to the present day. What is known is that 1899-P Morgan dollars are scarcer than any of the neighboring P-Mint coins. (Image) (imageb) (imagec)

117 image 1904-S AU. A very pleasing coin that would fit well in a set that had mostly Unc coins. Scarce date especially in higher grade as even AU58 coins are worth 3x that of AU50s. (Image) (imageb)
