20 image (50) 1859 // 1864 w/ dup all Copper-Nickel composition. Avg circ (AG to F.) These 88% copper 12% nickel cents were the first Indian Cents issued. They were made of the same composition, size, and weight of the earlier Flying Eagle Cents. During the Civil War, virtually all coins disappeared from circulation as uncertainty about the outcome of the war resulted in massive hoarding of all hard money. The copper-nickel cents were gradually replaced by the much lighter bronze cents starting in 1864. (Image) Est. $125-150 SE
