ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE STEAMER "UNCLE SAM" STENCIL STRAIGHTLINE
MARKING.
The "Uncle Sam" was built in 1849 and dismantled in 1859.
We record only three examples of the "Uncle Sam" straightline stencil marking:
1. 1851 Dec. 4, St. Louis Mo. to New Orleans La., uncancelled
3¢ #10A, the cover offered here.
2. Jan. 21, cover from Carroll Hoy correspondence to New Orleans La., 5¢ 1847 stamp doesn't belong, ex-Feldman.
3. 1852, folded letter to Saint Louis Mo. bearing 3¢ 1851 issue tied by stencil
