wax seal; some minor cover wear and wrinkling, Very Fine.

A RARE USAGE FROM FOOCHOW, CHINA TO THE SOURDOUGH ROAD HOUSE IN ALASKA.
The recipient, Thel Wattach was one of the "Three Lucky
Swedes" that discovered gold at Anvil Creek in 1898. This letter contained U.S. immigration documents
for Thel's wife's Chinese family. His roadhouse later became the Sourdough Lodge a few year later and was one of the oldest

The New York "Clamshell" marking is much scarcer in red and seldom clearly struck. According
to Siegel, Cal Hahn noted this was the "3rd best red strike recorded" and he surely was in a position to know. (Image1)
