United States Proofs & Essays continued...

1875 Reprints of the 1857 Issue continued...
LotNo. Symbol CatNo. Lot Description
381 P    46TC4 image1857-60 (1875 Reprint), 30¢ "Atlanta" trial color plate proofs on card complete. Two blocks of 8 in black as reconstructed block of 16, scarlet block of 8, brown, green and blue blocks of 4, each is plated by Dick Celler, a Very Fine set of blocks.
Scott No. 46TC4; $3,920+.

A RARE SET OF 30¢ 1857 ISSUE ATLANTA TRIAL COLOR SETS IN BLOCKS OF FOUR AND LARGER.

It was long believed that the Atlanta card proof sheets of 100 were cut into one set of blocks of eight, two sets of blocks of four, and the balance singles. The set here with a reconstructed black block of sixteen from two blocks of eight would seem to indicate two sets of blocks of eight were originally made.
