Worldwide Public Auction - July 5, 2018

Auction 343 is huge with 6,554 lots, catering for all types of collectors & dealers - from bulk accumulations and intact collections to desirable single items. This auction offers a huge range of material, with special emphasis on lotting stamps to cater for collectors with varying types of interests and budgets. Items range from $30 to $80,000 so there's something for everybody. This auction offers strong representation of Australia & Colonies, strong British Empire material of all areas & periods, as well as General Foreign including small and large collections. There are nearly 300 lots of Australian Collections (Lots 154-362) and almost 400 lots of World collections (Lots 363-716).

Following on there is over 1500 lots of Australia which consist of singles, sets and covers including Australian colonies (Lots 785-2302). The Australian lots cover all periods, from the Kangaroo issues up to Decimal and contains numerous number of mint & used £1 & £2 top values - this includes a C of A Watermark £2 Black & rose Ash imprint pr, inc variety 'open mouthed Kangaroo' at right' (R55). F-VF fresh MLH, with nice original gum & deep colours. SG 138(var). ACSC 58Aza cat $25,000. Very rare & desirable ex Sir Gwaine Baillie collection.(Lot 963). There are almost 4,500 lots of World stamps, covers and single country collections (Lots 2303-6189) with the British Empire well represented, highlighted by a Great Britain 1882-1901 IR OFFICIAL opt QV £1 brown-lilac, wmk 3 crowns, letters BA-AB. Superb M, original gum bit disturbed at top of hinge removal, excellent centring & nice original colour. SG Spec L9, SG O11 cat £75,000 & much under-catalogued compared to non-official opt issues. Great rarity of GB philately with less than 30 M/UN examples recorded, of which most of the others are no gum, regummed or with faults. This original gum example is definitely one of the best quality examples known. Provenance is ex the famous collections of Arthur Hind & of King Carol of Romania. 1987 RPSL photo cert.(Lot 4024) Numerous other European and Asian rarities as well.
