142 og, unused without gum image1863-65, De La Rue issue lot of 9 imperf. plate proofs in the issued colours, all overprinted SAGGIO (= "proof") in black and all with good to large margins all around, unused without gum except for paper adhesions on the backsides in overall good condition, also included is a perforated 2l stamp bearing the same proof overprint. Rossi handbook PS-1, PS-4. NOTE: These essays should not be mistaken with the more or less imperforate stamps of the same issue wihich are found on a collective sample sheet signed MENABREA at lower right. That sheet was intended to be hung in post offices all over the country at that time and usually normal perf stamps with clipped perforations have been applied on it. The stamps in this lot are all obviously genuinely imperforated. (Image) (imagea)
