Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday, October 02, 2024 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains 732 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A few of the highlights include the following:

  • Lot 44 - Scott no.244a - $4.00 Columbian, rose carmine shade, F-VF, beautiful, bright color

  • Lot 45 - Scott no. 245var - $5.00 Columbian, Plate Scratch variety

  • Lot 46 - Scott no. 254 - 4¢ Dark Brown, Bottom Plate Block of 6, no. 59 with Bureau Imprint

  • Lot 47 Scott no. 256 - 6¢ Purple Lake, Bottom Plate Block of 6, No. 28. This is a very RARE color for this unwatermarked issue and should get certified!

  • Lot 65 Scott. no. 480 - $5.00 Light Green, Top Plate Block of 6 No. 8016, F-VF, GORGEOUS and seldom seen!

  • UNITED STATES, There are (136) U.S. lots offered, includes a splendid assortment of Classics, with several scarce issues. There are some Banknotes, (10) Columbians, about (18) Washington/Franklins; including a Scott 480, ($5.00 LIGHT GREEN, TOP PLATE BLOCK OF 6 NO. 8016), and (17) lots of Kansas/Nebraska Overprint issues. The rest are a mixture of 1922 Regular and Modern issues.
  • COVERS, There are (24) Cover lots; (11) Commercial that includes one with $1.30 and $2.60 GRAF ZEPPELIN ISSUES ON ZEPPELIN FLIGHT COVER, a beautiful piece of postal history; and (13) First Day covers, including a C18 FDC.

  • AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, This section contains (30) lots of which (8) are Air Post, with attractive copies of the first issues and a set of NH Zepplins - pristine (C13-C15) . The others are a mix of Special Delivery, Revenue and Souvenir Cards and pages.

  • ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, There are (4) lots with color shifts, mis-cuts and misperfs.

  • GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, There are about (250) lots to consider, with some excellent Peoples Republic of China (PRC) sets from the 1960's-70's. A number of collections from a variety of countries offering new collecting opportunities; and several interesting Topical collections. Many Canadian classics (18) are also offered; one highlight is lot 235 Canada 104-122 1¢-$1.00 1911-25 KGV Definitives, with white paper and bright colors!

  • AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, About (24) items offered with (6) Autograph lots; includes nice signed letter by Leo Durocher - very successful and fiery baseball player and manager; also 1876 and1893 Exposition tickets, along with other memorobilia and Cinderellas (1977 set of Staffa gold stamps for Queen Elizabeth's 25th anniversary as monarch).

  • DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS & PRINTS, Contains about (260) lots, with Federals; (singles, plate blocks and plate number singles) along with Mini-sheets, remarques, EFO's, and artist signed stamps. The State Duck stamps category consists of singles, Governor's Editions (31) lots - several hand signed) , and Conservation issues with a number of South Dakota text stamps (some quite scarce) and a South Dakota NH 1949 waterfowl issue. Also, rounding out the popular duck stamp categories, are (8) Federal Duck Stamp Prints, including RW34, 43, 45, 46 (two, one with a companion etching), 51, 52 and 60. There are (7) State Duck Print lots, including a Green-winged Teal lot of five state prints. Finishing off the last of the prints, you'll find duck prints from Canada. Nice selection of prints!
