Sam Houston Philatelics Sale - 3101

Internet, Mail, and Phone Auction 3101 - March 22, 2023

Sam Houston Philatelics next auction will close on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM, Central Time. The sale contains 622 lots, with material in all price ranges and something for everyone, collectors and dealers alike. A few of the highlights include the following:

  • UNITED STATES, There are (86) U.S. lots offered, with (20) lots of nice Classics, Pictorials and Banknotes. Highlights are three 1869 pictorials; lots 4, 8 and 9. There are (37) lots among the Exhibition and late 19th Century stamps, with a couple nice NH Pan-Pacific lots. You'll find (20) lots of Washington/Franklins and late 1920 issues. The 1930 to Date section offers 40 lots, with 37 Graded, mostly VF or VF-SUPERB (grade 95/98's).
  • COVERS, There are about (40) Cover lots, (12) Commercial, including C14 ($1.30 Graf Zeppelin) on a flown cover; and (40) First Day Covers lots, of which 19 have hand-painted Pugh cachets, and a seldom offered Star Wars Postal Cards (Lot 135), and other complete individual Postal Card sets, each with the brilliant work of Julian and Sharon Pugh.

  • AIRMAIL AND BACK OF BOOK ISSUES, Contains (55) lots, with (18) Airmails, of which (8) are graded - four lots as "95" and two lots as "GEM". There (37) other BOB issues, that includes a NH copy of E6, an unused copy of the newspaper PR4 and two lots of the scarce Schermack private perf 320Adv (lots 175 and 176). Also, a horizontal pair of TD46 Schermack Type III, Blank Coil Pair. Interesting BOB offerings.

  • ERRORS, FREAKS & ODDITIES, a half-dozen Lots of EFO's are offered with sliding vignettes, mis-perfs, missing color, etc.

  • GENERAL FOREIGN & COLLECTIONS, About (121) foreign lots with a nice selection of sets and singles from Australia to Venezuela, including a number of Canadian and Great Britain lots, the Falklands, Germany, and a number of other countries. Includes Bhutan (lot 207) #152-152F complete set of Phonographic Record stamps, and an 1841 dated Great Britain Mulready letter sheet (lot 250). There are (8) U.S. Collections, (19) Foreign Country Collections, (4) World Wide and (4) Topical Collections. There are some interesting items in the Topical Collections, including a Beatles/John Lennon collector box, Bicycle topic collection on Vario stocksheets, and a Black Heritage Commemorative Society Collection.

  • AUTOGRAPHS & MISCELLANEOUS, A total of (58) lots, with (35) Autographs and (23) Miscellaneous. The Autographs include Cosmonauts Gagarin and Tereshkova, Greta Garbo, Farley Granger and others in the Entertainment, Sports and Politics arenas. There are also various Cinderella items, Exposition material, and eclectic odds and ends.

  • DUCK AND CONSERVATION STAMPS, PRINTS (Federal, Junior and State) contains about (200) lots, with a mix of Federal, State, Governor's Editions and other duck related categories. Included are (13) Junior Duck Stamp lots, (30) lots of Plate Number Singles, and (64) lots of Federal stamps (Singles, Plate Blocks and Graded issues). There are (7) Press Sheet items, (40) Artist Signed Federal stamps, (16) State duck issues, along with (13) Governor's Editions lots. Also, there are (12) Foreign, Indian Reservation, Conservation and Hunting stamp lots. There are (19) Prints offered this auction, (7) Federal, including First Editions of RW13, RW39 and RW40. There are (12) State duck prints, with most being First of State - Georgia, Louisiana, Montana, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington and West Virginia.
