1946 (Jul 2) cover from Auburn (NSW) addressed to serviceman aboard
HMS Gould at Colombo (Ceylon), redirected to HMS Terror, addressee not located so bold strike of boxed 'NO TRACE/"TERROR"' handstamp applied and blue 4-line 'TO BE RETURNED TO/SENDER BY ORDER OF/ADMIRALTY, IN VIEW OF/TIME
ELAPSED SINCE/LETTER WAS WRITTEN' (both handstamps not seen by us before), various mss markings and 'Pointing Finger' RTS handstamps on front and reverse, OHMS War Economy sealing tape on three sides. Interesting cover, the 1946 Auburn cds
may be a slug error ('1946' for '1940') as the HMS Terror was scuttled in February 1941 (all crew evacuated) and HMS Gould was sunk by U-boat in March 1944, the likely slug error argument is supported by the manuscript endorsement
"7/10/40" at left side, in the same grey ink colour as the notation on the resealing tape; cover has some edge faults. (Image1) (Image2)
