AN OFFICIAL NOTICE to the PUBLIC - REGARDING WAR EMERGENCY MAILS for AUSTRALIA:
December 1854 notice, 51 x 29 cm, on VR watermarked paper, issued by the British Postmaster General, London, advising of the planned sailing on January 5th, of the sailing vessel "Lightning" "for the conveyance of the Mails....round the Cape of Good Hope.....[with] Letters and Newspapers for New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Van Diemen's Land."

The notice explains that several of the steam vessels used by the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Comapny, having been "required by Her Majesty's Government for the exigiencies of the [Crimean] War, they are unable to provide a Steamer for the conveyance [of mails] from Singapore to Australia, hence the use of the just launched clipper, "Lightning". The Crimean War (1853-1856) was a conflict primarily fought on the Crimean Peninsula, involving Russia against an alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, the United Kingdom, and Sardinia. 

OFFICIAL - GOVERNMENT RAILWAYS - STAMPED TO ORDER: 1905 1d rose Coat-of-Arms postcard with view"EMPRESS FALLS..", used Feb.1910 from Sydney to Granville and redirected to Guildford; sent by the District Supeintendent regarding the "Sanitary Contract". Scarce.

1860 (SG.1) 1d carmine-rose Queen Victoria Chalon portrait; Unused, with three good margins; touches at top right. Accompanied by Ceremuga Certificate [2016] stating "Genuine in all respects....Extremely rare in (*) condition....fresh & strong colour." Cat.£6,500.

POSTAL CARDS: (H&G #4) 1898 (July 30) use of 1d Postal Card to Hong Kong, uprated with 1d to pay foreign postcard rate, tied by BRISBANE duplex, HONG KONG 'AU30' arrival datestamp, printed notice on reverse for Union Bank of Australia. The only known commercially used example to this destination.

POSTAL CARDS: (H&G #5) 1888 2d Postal Cards comprising UPU example with diagonal 'SPECIMEN' handstamp in blue, unused, and used (2) with 1890 (Jan 12) Toowoomba to England and 1891 (May 22) to England with Type 3a THURSDAY ISLAND departure datestamp (rated 3R). Used examples are rare in the correct period of usage. (4)

Of 49,440 cards printed only 11,001 were sold. Less than 6 cards are recorded used prior to 1 October 1891.

POSTAL CARDS: (H&G #6) postally used examples of the 3d Postal Card, correctly used within the period of usage to UK destinations, comprising 1889 (Oct.21) Brisbane to London, 1890 (Mar.23) Mackay to Hereford, & 1890 (Aug.2) Brisbane to Scotland endorsed "Via San Francisco". (3)

Only 10 cards are known correctly used within the period of usage to May 1891, when the rate was cut to 2d.

POSTAL CARDS: (H&G #7) 1d Reply Postal Cards rare uprated usages comprising 1900 (Nov.29) Thursday Island to Holland with card and the added ½d tied by fine Rays '148' cancels; also 1907 (Aug.24) with card and added ½d adhesive tied by BUNDABERG '148' duplex. Rare duo. (2)
