THE WINNING ENTRY IN THE MACROBERTSON AIR RACE October 1934 (AAMC.433) England - Australia MacRobertson Air Race cover carried by the winning entry DH66 Comet 'Grosvenor House' in a total elapsed time of 71 hours and signed
by both pilots "CWA Scott" and "Tom Campbell Black" on the back. Posted on arrival and returned by registered mail to England with blue R label alongside adhesives, fine condition, Cat $1,250. John Cress' similar example sold
for $1,525.

21 Aug.1936 roughly opened cover London-Melbourne, participant in the famed 'Desert incident', where Horsa on Aug 29, during Imperial Airways service flight IE473 (departed
Aug.22), overshot Bahrain Aerodrome by 100kms at night, a consequence of the airfield lights not having been switched on, the pilots becoming lost and making a forced-landing in the desert, at Salwa Wells. The aircraft was found 40 hours later, and
mail and passengers were flown out by RAF Mail to connect with IE474-75, the service delayed five days. Melbourne backstamp (blurred) Sept.14. Only two covers from this major incident believed recorded to Australia. Sanford: 360809. [The Perry
example realized $3495 in 2013]. This incident to be included in the next edition of the Australian Air Mail Catalogue.
