Great Britain 1911 King Edward VII 9d Dull Reddish Purple & Blue – Complete
Unmounted Pane of 20, SG307
Scarce Somerset House Printing – Pristine Mint Multiple
A stunning complete pane of twenty of the 1911 King Edward VII 9d dull reddish purple and blue, printed at Somerset House, SG307, GB Specialised Catalogue No: M41(3).
The complete pane is in very fine unmounted mint condition, with full original gum. The colour is deep and vibrant, and the perforations are fresh and clean throughout. The pane retains its marginal inscription blocks and registration markings,
adding exceptional visual appeal.
Historical Context
Issued in the final year of Edward VII’s reign, this 9d stamp was part of the definitive series printed between 1902 and 1911. The King passed away in May 1910, but stamps bearing his image continued to be printed until 1911, when they were
gradually replaced by those featuring George V.
The 9d denomination was primarily used for international postal rates and heavier registered mail, and its relatively low circulation makes mint multiples exceedingly scarce today. Somerset House printings are particularly desirable for their finer
engraving and quality control compared to later printings by Harrison & Sons.
SG Catalogue Value: £2,600+.
