Great
Britain 1979 Rowland Hill Miniature sheet error, SGMS1099c.
A very fine unmounted mint with full original gum example with gold (Queen's Head) omitted. Offered with a normal example for comparison and presentation.
The miniature sheet was issued to
commemorate the centenary of the death of Sir Rowland Hill, the founder of the prepaid postal system with the introduction of the penny black which was subsequently adopted throughout the world.
The premium on the sales of these miniature sheets was
used to support funding of the London 1980 International Stamp Exhibition.
A scarce and attractive Queen Elizabeth II error with the missing gold colour resulting in the complete omission of the Queen's head. Pierron records only 36 miniature
sheets.
Interestingly, there is only one known first day cover, which is of the 11½p PHQ card, which was cancelled in Kidderminster the birthplace of Sir Rowland Hill.
