Great
Britain 1912 5s carmine Specimen, SG318s.
A very fine unmounted mint example with full original gum printed at Somerset House, overprinted "SPECIMEN" type 26.
Extremely scarce as Specimen examples were used solely by postal administrations for
reference purposes to help spot any attempted forgeries.
An aid to identification in this difficult to find value is on the back of the stamp. The ink used for the De La Rue printings had a permeating quality which gives the appearance of an offset
of the design on the back. The carmine 5 shilling stamps were from a later printing with fine impression.
A beautiful King Edward VII gem.
