1049   image1911/1925, King George V "Admiral" Issue, advanced collection, written-up with exceptional care and insight, conveying the evolution of this iconic definitive series, almost entirely mint, with many never hinged items, beginning with a most attractive King George V portrait engraved die proof on card-mounted India paper, prepared by the American Bank Note Company, followed by a complete basic set of the first seven issued stamps, including attractive never hinged examples of the 5c dark blue, 10c reddish purple, and 20c olive green, the latter with 2024 Greene Foundation certificate, following is a basic set of six Revenue Overprints with 5c, 20c, and 50c values overprinted WAR TAX or INLAND REVENUE WAR TAX (the MR2B used), and studies of the later printings reflecting the 1921 rate increase and 1925 decrease, noting a never hinged $1 orange and a a fresh never hinged block of ten of the 3c compound perforation, the booklet stamps represented by panes of six of the 1912 2c carmine, 1913 1c green, and 1922 1c yellow—the first two never hinged—as well as later four-pane-plus-tab formats for the 1c, 2c, and 3c denominations. The coil issues are treated in detail, with the 1c green showing both wet (perf 8) and dry (perf 12) printings, highlighted by an unusual vertical pair with plate scratch and ink blob (CPES certificate), and a fine example of the rare Toronto experimental coil strip of four (ex Lindemann), the 2c carmine including a very fine never hinged perforated 8 horizontally vertical pair, fine 2c deep rose Admiral provisional paste-up coil strips of four showing both Type A and the scarcer Type B overprints, the 2c green with a better-than-usual centred perf 12 horizontally vertical paste-up pair, concluding with a striking representative selection of lathework illustrating Types A through D, including multiples, noting a scarce $1 Type D used single and a striking 3c plate block of sixteen showing full Type D lathework, as well as four different Eckerlin reverse proofs prepared as samples for Henry Treadwell of the ABNC, and a reference group of fourteen forged plate proofs with annotations, a most attractive and carefully-prepared collection, acquired over many years by a knowledgeable philatelist with a clear focus on depth and presentation, offering both visual appeal and strong research potential for further expansion; viewing of our online photo gallery, which shows every page, is highly recommended to fully appreciate the scope and calibre of this lovely holding. 1059   image1932, King George V Medallion Issue, detailed mint collection, carefully written-up and beautifully presented on exhibit-style pages, comprising the complete basic set with a wealth of additional material including positional multiples, plate varieties, coil strips, booklet panes, and re-entries, coil strips, including line pairs in strips of four of the 1c, 2c, and 3c values, booklet panes of the 1c (two examples, one each showing “PLATE” and “NO. 2” inscriptions), 2c, and 3c issues, notable varieties include the “dot in N of CENTS” flaw on the 2c black brown from Plate 3, upper left, position 12, in a plate block of nine, and “dots in left 3” on the 2c deep red from Plate 9, lower left, position 34, in a plate block of twenty-eight, the 5c value showing both the major re-entry and the re-touched major re-entry in upper right corner blocks of four, as well as the “Bluenose” re-entry and retouched version in lower right corner blocks of twelve, a pleasing used selection accompanies, along with a further group of contemporary Postage Due stamps, a spot check indicates most material is hinged, though generally fresh and fine to very fine throughout, the varieties particularly challening, particularly in such large positional multiples, a comprehensive and attractive study of this short-lived issue, ideal for further specialisation.
