673 CVR   image1939 Registered Round the world Multistage Flight Cover London to Bangkok with British, USA & Thailand Frankings. Franked with UK 7d and 8d George VI definitives tied with LONDON Aug 1, 1939 machine cancellation (under BANGKOK Registration Label) and arrived in New York where 20c and 50c Trans Pacific Airmails were applied and tied with NEW YORK N. Y. G. P. O. AUG 8 1939 c.d.s. to be routed to Bangkok via VICTORIA HONG KONG AUG 16 1939 transit on back where three Thailand adhesives were applied tied with two BANGKOK 19 9 1939 bilingual double circle cancellations to pay the cost of return to London England where a large violet 26 AUG 1939 receiver was applied. There are multiple address labels affixed for each leg of the journey. Initially this appears to be a Pan Am First Flight cover, however there is no official listing of a London to Bangkok flight or a New York to Bangkok flight during this time period and may have been linked to an Imperial Airways flight. The KLM AIR MAIL label indicates this may have been an independent flight construct. The sequence documents a complex registered itinerary through multiple postal systems immediately prior to September 1939, with distinct office evidence preserved. Very fine condition. AMERICA" handstamp (P.E. 67) in yellow and large "3" due marking in black, some typical ageing and file folds, not detracting from this remarkable and visually striking cover; the only recorded example bearing this specific combination of British and Cuban markings, including the rare Empresa strike in yellow, a superb transatlantic showpiece of the early postal history of Mexico and Cuba.
