SS Rotterdam” (“Damaged by fire on board SS Rotterdam”), adhesive completely washed away, reverse with Gravenhage (4 Sep) arrival backstamp, an important wreck cover, believed to be the only recorded example from Ecuador and a rare survivor of the Rotterdam fire incident. 589 CVR BM6 image1870 (October 6), Ballon Monté siege of Paris letter to Caen, official thin-paper “Par Ballon Monté” printed entire franked with 20c Napoleon III blue (Siege printing) paying the inland letter rate, tied by Paris red circular datestamp, reverse with Caen (30 Oct) arrival, inside a lengthy three-page message in French datelined Paris (1 Oct 1870) discussing siege conditions, typical folds and light toning from carriage with a small edge nibble and short tear on one page plus a couple of negligible age spots, otherwise sound and very presentable for siege mail, carried by one of the official Ballon Monté flights (likely Armand Barbès), correctly prepaid 20c for the domestic rate to Calvados, an early-siege usage with prompt provincial delivery.
