1539 CVR   imageThe Leon Pont Collection of Personal Correspondence Covers, 1920s to 1940s, with about 120 envelopes of all sizes (no letters inside), mostly sent from India to Mr. Pont in India, England, Switzerland and France (also some to his family), many were mailed by his long time friend Stephen Smith, who was either just saying hello, or sending him the latest batch of covers in exchange for financial help for his air mail and rocket mail endeavors. Many are registered and there is a wide variety of frankings, mostly all from India, including several first airmail issues, high value definitives, etc. There are many faults, some severe, still many are fine. Too large a lot to properly describe here, see some of our scans to get an idea. 1543 ng Italy image1926 (April 10) Italian Volo Transpolare Amundsen Nobile Ellsworth Zeppelin Airmail Labels, a rare full sheet of 20, with even rarer tête-bêche stamp at lower left corner of sheet. The back of the sheet shows 10 oval handstamps in purple, and there is a pencil signature on back of the inverted stamp. Unfortunately, this sheet was stored folded in half, with a thin layer of glassine protecting the gum, but the layer has mostly remained stuck. This sheet belonged to Mr. Leon V. Pont, whose Indian Airmail collection is being sold elsewhere in this catalogue. We believe he purchased the sheet in the late 1920s or early 1930s. Faults due to storage, still presentable and rare. Picture Postcards
LotNo. Symbol Cat No. Lot Description
1546 PC Canada imageLot of Approximately 3,200 Picture Postcards, consisting mostly of glossy chrome issues, from the 1950s to the 1980s with some earlier ones. All are housed in seven shoe boxes, with many sorted by city or province (these better than usual, please inspect) or by category such as comic, greetings, planes and ships.
