1177 O   imageSTOCK EXCHANGE / E.C. a collection of 5 different strikes, each on a 10d brown octagonal Queen Victoria cut square, and dated between FE 7 / 94 and MR 13 / 94. Three are dated MR 13, and two of these show A and B time mark. The cut squares appear to come from telegraph forms. The Handbook (and its four supplements) reports no examples known (therefore a rarity factor of 500), and supposes that they could exist on non-postal items, such as telegraph or revenue forms. These prove this theory in spades. Accompanied by four of the same cut squares, these with Stock Exchange C.D.S. cancels dated in the same period. Also some sales sheets from Samwells from which three of these were purchased. A rare opportunity. (Scan a) (Scan b) (All Scans)

1178 O   imageTHROGMORTON AVENUE F / E.C. a fine and centered strike P / AU 16 / 90 on a £1 brown violet Queen Victoria stamp (tiny tear at right). When the Handbook was published, only two strikes of this office were known, one (offered elsewhere in this collection) on a £1 stamp and one on a 1sh stamp. This is a third, unrecorded example. A rare squared circle, with a rarity factor of 475. The stamp alone catalogues $4,500 in Scott, including 50% premiums for very fine centering and clear c.d.s. postmark - squared circle postmarks are quite a lot rarer on this stamp. S.G. #185,cat £2,800. (Scan a) Est $ 500

1196 O/CVR/PC   imageLondon Head District Offices Collection on Pages and in Stockbooks, includes seven collections on pages, for Offices West (two different), East, South East (two different), North West and South West. Each of these contains several hundred stamps, stamps on piece, covers and cards hinged onto pages and each item is neatly identified by hammer, time code, etc. The owner has added a count of how many stamps or covers each collection contains, and has sorted them into how many "R", "RR", "RRR", etc. There appears to be between 1,300 and 1,400 items within. Also includes two stockbooks, with mostly stamps (some on piece) mostly all identified by the owner. These two probably contain about 100 items. A great lot for the secialist, as they are all sorted and identified, and we noted many ERD and LRD, anomalies, etc. (Scan a) (Scan b) (Scan c) (Scan d) (Scan e) (All Scans)
