Queen Victoria Plate Proof in Deep Rose, in a full sheet of 100, on card-mounted India paper, with full sheet margins all around showing 8 printer's inscriptions. The sheet also shows major re-entries in positions 28 and 58. There is a small
stain on the card at top (away from the sheet) which in no way detracts from this stunningly beautiful sheet. A must have for the serious collector. Rsv. (Scan a) |

Group of
Interesting 5c Beaver Stamps, first is unused (with faults), an imprint copy with a clogged-up 4-ring #4, a nice strike of Québec #37 in grid (closed tear), a single which appears to have an extra vertical row of perforations (probably
post-contemporary), a very thick paper, five attractive stamps having red, green or blue cancels, a #16 on grid cancel from Hamilton, a used pale vermilion shade caused by under-inking (heavily inked at right), a very fine bright vermilion shade with
a re-entry in right frameline (on medium wove paper) plus one other. Overall fine, with 14 stamps in all. (Scan a)

1859 12½c
yellow green Queen Victoria, a lovely used block of eight, tied to piece by several strikes of the Brantford CW duplex dated AUG.21.1867. The stamps are clearly from positions 1-4, 11-14 as evidenced by the printer's imprint in top margin and
unique centering. Because of its large size, this block was instrumental in helping determine the single-plate theory for this value. Once belonging to Brig. Studd, it was studied by himself as well as Jarrett, Senator Calder, Lee-Jones and others,
as evidenced by the accompanying article by Peter J. Hurst published in the October 4, 1952 Weekly Philatelic Gossip magazine. We know only of one or more blocks of four and a strip of four, leaving this as likely the largest known multiple. A
few insignificant faults, still a must have for the Cents or classics collector. Rsv. (Scan a) |

1859 12½c
yellow green Queen Victoria with Major Re-Entry, mint with large part original gum. This major re-entry, most notable in the E of PENCE is from plate position 94 and the stamp has a sheet selvedge at bottom (scarce thus for this issue, but even
more so with small part printer's imprint at left) corroborating this. Very nice centering, with a shorter perf at right, with fresh colour and a scarce stamp in this very fine condition. Accompanied by a 2014 Greene Foundation certificate stating
"gum somewhat disturbed". This stamp is widely recognized as being the finest mint example of the major re-entry. Rsv. (Scan a)
