354 og/nh 292-374 imageEarly Queen Elizabeth II Mint Issues, starts with a complete set of 17 of the first Wilding issues, plus the following set of 18 and includes all of the graphite-lined stamps (set of 6 and set of 8). The first Castle set of 4 is very lightly hinged and the second is mixed hinged and NH but the £1 has a crease. Also includes a second set of De la Rue printed Castles (listed only in S.G. as #s536a-539a, £600). Complete in period 1952 to 1960 (missing phosphor graphite issues), all are fresh and mostly never hinged. Scott catalogue value does not include the De la Rue printings mentioned. 355 E/P   imagec. 1960s Thomas de la Rue Essay Large Die Proof, measuring 76 x 85 mm, sunk-in on wove paper. This essay was engraved by George A. Gundersen (a Canadian stamp engraver) and depicts a full face of Thomas de la Rue, celebrating the Centennial of his death. There are apparently only two known copies of this die proof. 360 ng O10 image1885 brown violet £1 Queen Victoria, Overprinted "I. R. OFFICIAL", unused (no gum) and well centered. Accompanied by a 2016 P.T.S. Expertizing (Surrey, GB) certificate stating "thin at bottom left, diagonal crease on letter "F" top right corner, stained and soiled". Two small ownership handstamps on back. Still, we qualify these faults as minor, as the stamp has a very fine appearance and would look great even in the best collections. A desirable major world rarity. S.G. #O11 £75,000. 361 blOOK Z imageDeluxe Edition of the Royal Philatelic Collection, by Sir John Wilson, Dropmore Press, 1952 with magazine article indicating this publication on the history of the Royal Philatelic Collection sold new for $190 in 1952. Bound in full Morocco dark red leather, the book has 5 raised bands on the spine and gilt Royal Coat of Arms on front cover plus additional gilt stamping on spine, back cover and top edges of the pages. The slipcase is missing and there is some staining mostly on the top left of the front cover and top right of the back cover, along with some fading of the spine and minor scuffing on the back cover. However, the contents of this 10½ x 14½ x 3 inch publication, including the 12 exceptional colour plates with overlays, plus the over 60 pages of black and white plates, are in very fine condition. A similar example with slipcase and in very fine condition sold for $500 in our February 2017 sale (Lot 2474). (Scan a) (Scan b) (Scan c) (All Scans)
