sent from Montreal, Canada December 9, 1856 and addressed to "Captain Andrew M. Bowman, 3rd Infantry, Fort Stanton New Mexico or else where", arrived in Albuquerque after almost four months and was remailed on March 24, 1857 to Fort Massachusetts
(carried by military courier on this last leg), very fine and rare, an important piece of early Colorado postal history, in 1858 Fort Massachusetts was replaced by Fort Garland located six miles away, ex-Persson (Image 1)
