missing) and cancelled on arrival, expected condition with some folds, breaks, pieces out, etc. but a ridiculously rare and great showpiece showing the shortage of materials on the line and the resourcefulness of the men in the field during battle (Image 1)

scarcernThe Montauk post office was established to facilitate the growing volume of soldier's mail, but it was not a principle office. A post office was established in the area of Montauk, which would become Camp Wikoff, a quarantine site for
soldiers returning from Cuba and began operations in August 1898 until the last soldier left on October 28. At one point over 21,000 soldiers were in the camp (257 men died in the camp) and conditions were so bad that President McKinley and Secretary
of War Alger visited to boost moralernThe 71st New York was ordered to support the "Rough Riders" at San Juan Hill (they were late) and the Battle of Santiago but suffered their greatest losses from sickness and disease. (Image 1)

Officially Opened/ Sealed. "busy" PO Dept Chattanooga Tenn Official Business penalty envelope originally addressed to a soldier in Chickamauga Ga thought to be in the New York 2nd Infantry, he was actually in the New Jersey 2nd and the
envelope ended up getting forwarded to Jacksonville and Tampa, myriad of auxiliary, Dead Letter Office and postman's markings, official seals overlap at right, cover open three sides for display, typical postal wear, Fine and an eye-catching cover.

right, typical bit of edge wrinkling, Fine use from this small camprnThe Michigan 31st shipped out to Cuba on January 25 1899, landing at Cienfuegos and then parceled out to the towns of Santa Clara Province to preserve order and protect property.
The regiment performed guard duty until it returned to the United States in April 1899 and was disbanded at Savannah, Georgia in May 1899. While in federal service, 20 men died from sickness in southern camps and hospitals. (Image 1)

Shikoku Island", 3c Defense issue tied by La Jolla Cal Apr 9 1942 machine cancel, partial Japanese POW camp dated (17.7.24) censor handstamp on back side, Very Fine and rare early mail to an American POW inside JapanrnLt John Nestor was stationed on
the USS "R.L. Barnes" a small Navy oil tanker and served as an oil storage vessel in Guam beginning in April 1920 after service in the Caribbean. During Japanese air attacks on Guam Dec 8, 1941, the oiler was bombed and strafed at her mooring,
causing damage topside and starting dangerous leaks. Still afloat when the Japanese invasion force landed on Guam, Robert L. Barnes was abandoned and fell into enemy hands on Dec 10. Lt. Nestor was one of 300 Americans captured and incarcerated at
the Zenjitsu POW Camp. He was transferred to the Rokuroshi Camp in June of 1945 and rescued Sep 7 1945. (Image 1)
