RARE
ROUTE and DOUBLE FRENCH RATE: Large fragment of cover sent from B.Aires to Mazeres (Hautes-Pyrenees) in DE/1873, dispatched from CARTERÍA "E" in Buenos Aires where it received the corresponding Argentine postage of 5c. and the French rate of 1Fr. (4x
25c.) to be carried by the French mail to destination (probably by Mensageries Imperiales). For some reason, it was forwarded by the English mail office in B.Aires, and the cover arrived in London on 15/JA/1874 and from there carried to France (see
the English-French exchange mark of 1.60Fr.), double rate because the French postage applied in origin was not acknowledged, and which was cancelled in France. Although it is not a complete cover and shows some defects, its appearance is very fine
and it is and extremely rare case of change of route! (Image)
