101 CVR 36, 41 image1891 Small Queen Registered Illustrated Cover, mailed from Kent Bridge, Ont. on MAR.26.1891 (very fine broken circle free strike, and earliest recorded strike of this instrument) to London, Ont. (MAR.27 receiver) through Chatham (MAR.26), via the London & Windsor RPO (MAR.26). The cover is franked with a pair of 3c and a single 2c Small Queens, paying the 8c registration rate. The front is illustrated with three Maple Leaves from the J.S.P & Co. 102 CVR 36, F1 image1879 Aldborough U.C Quadruple Rate Registered Cover, mailed on MAR.14.1879 (28mm steel datestamp was part of the 1831 order, and this is a LRD by 17 years) to St Thomas (MAR.15 receiver) and travelled on the Canada Southern Railway (boxed "REGISTERED / C.S.R." RY-33, and "C.A.SOUTHERN.R / EAST" double broken circle dated MAR.15 RY-34). The cover is franked with a 2c green Small Queen block of six, plus a 2c orange Registration issue, all tied by concentric ring cancels and straightline "REGISTERED" handstamps. Unofficial Duplex on a Registered Small Queen Cover, mailed on FEB.13.1882 (unofficial duplex # DUN-23) to Bridgetown, franked with two 3c Small Queens and a 2c Registration stamp (each a tad sulphuretted) paying the 8c registration letter rate. Also a "REGISTERED / LETTER No ___" handstamp. Very fine, and a scarce duplex cancel.

106 CVR 37, F1 image1883 Toronto Registered Small Queen Cover, mailed on JUL.4.1883 (scarce REGISTERED / TORONTO ONT c.d.s. free strikes on front and back) to Sandwich (JUL.5 receiver) through Windsor (JUL.5), franked with a 3c Small Queen and 2c Registration stamp, both tied by fancy cork cancels, very fine. Ex Horace Harrison (Lee, Sale 108, lot 234, where the Toronto postmark was described as having only 4 examples known on front).

107 CVR 37e, 40e image1875 32c Rate Registered Cover to the United States, mailed from Chatham, Ontario on AUG.6.1875 (Berri duplex strikes cancel the stamps) to Ripley, Mississippi, with partial AUG.6 West G.W.R. datestamp on reverse. The cover is franked with four (two singles and a pair) 3c red Small Queens (perf. 11½ x 12) plus a vertical pair of the 10c pale milky rose lilac Small Queens (perf 11½ x 12) paying 32c, being 9 times the cross-border letter rate plus 5c registration fee. Reduced at both ends and wrinkling, which is to be expected on such a heavy cover, still an unusual rate and more importantly a scarce and desirable use of the first printing of the 10c value, as very few multiples of this issue are known, on or off cover. Ex Ted Nixon (2012), Danny Cantor (2015).

109 CVR 40 image1881 10c (Double Weight) Small Queen Cover to England, Undeliverable, mailed from Chatham, Ontario sometime in 1881 (duplex year is unreadable) to Newcastle on Tyne (FEB.9.1881 receiver on back), through Halifax (JAN.27.1881), franked with a very fine 10c dull rose lilac Small Queen, paying the double weight 5c rate. Upon arrival, the cover was endorsed "Not Known" and "Address Insufficient" in bright purple ink. It was sent to the Newcastle on Tyne Dead Letter Office (FEB.21 datestamp on front), where it was opened, then resealed with "Officially sealed" labels. The cover was then mailed back to Canada (FEB.22 "Returned Office / London" c.d.s. on back) and arrived at the Ottawa Dead Letter Office on MAR.1.1881. Condition is commiserate with an officially repaired cover, and we do not recall seeing another undeliverable cover at this rate. 110 CVR 40b image1882 10c UPU Small Queen Cover to Jamaica, mailed from Wallaceburg on AUG.17.1882 to Kingston, Island of Jamaica, West Indies (SEP.1 receiver) via New York, redirected within Jamaica to Spanish Town (SEP.1 receiver). Franked with 10c deep rose lilac Small Queen, tied by a fancy propeller cork cancel, paying the 10c UPU double weight letter rate. Open on three sides, with vertical creases, piece of backflap missing and overall aging, still a scarce franking / destination, fine. Only four solo uses of the 10c value to Jamaica have been recorded. Ex Danny Cantor and George Arfken, and illustrated in "Canada and the Universal Postal Union" (p.26).
