(datestamps in blue). One also has a boxed Campbelton transit datestamp in blue. 442 CVR   image1851 Folded Letter from Scotland to the United States, mailed from Glasgow on APR.25.1851 (octagonal despatch on front) to Philadelphia, via Liverpool (oval “L / A” datestamp dated APR.26), endorsed “Pr. Europa” and rated “38” handstamp, crossed-out and replaced with a manuscript “48”, very fine. Written-up onto pages explaining the rate, with a lovely picture and write-up of the steamer Europa. 444 CVR   image1849 Stampless Folded Letter from Great Britain to Hong Kong, mailed (and written) on APR.24.1849 (Maltese Cross despatch in red) to Captain Lyons / H.M.S. Pilot / Hong Kong, with a JUN.13.1849 double ring receiver, endorsed "by overland India mail". Inside is a long letter written by Lyons' sister Minna, of which there is a very well done transcript. Accompanied by the owner's 8 page research on Edmund Lyons, all of the ships he worked on, his life, etc. Letter has aging and tears along the folds, still a fascinating item.

445   image1850 Letter Written in Hong Kong, a 4 page letter datelined "Hong Kong 28 Nov 1850" written by Thomas C. Leslie to his mother in Scotland, of which there is a neat transcript. Letter only (no postal markings), very fine and interesting.

449 CVR   image1901 (Nov.16) Cover from Canton China to San Francisco, a silk-fibre cover mailed from Canton on NOV.16.1901 (bilingual chops) tying 20c and 50c Chinese Imperial Post stamps paying the domestic rate to Victoria, Hong Kong. Two Victoria / Hong Kong NOV.17.1901 double circle c.d.s. tie two Hong Kong stamps (20c and 50c surcharges) which pay for the U.P.U. rate to the United States. These two stamps are also tied each by a boxed "I.P.O." handstamp. There is a San Francisco receiver dated DEC.18.1901. Opened on three sides for display, else scarce and fine.

458   image1941 (Nov.17) Canadian Acknowledgment of Receipt to Hong Kong, an A.R. card which would have accompanied a registered letter, mailed from Victoria, British Columbia on NOV.17.1941 to Hong Kong, arriving there on DEC.1.1941 (Registered / G.P.O. Hong Kong double circle receiver on back), franked with a 10c Memorial Chamber issue. At the time the card was due to be sent back to Canada, Honk Kong surrendered to the Japanese and it received a boxed "DETAINED IN HONG KONG / BY JAPANESE / FROM DECEMBER 1941 to SEPTEMBER 1945" in black. At the end of the occupation period it was sent back, and arrived in Royal Oak BC on SEP.27.1945 (c.d.s. on back, 4 years later). It is estimated that only 200 covers bear the "Detained..." handstamp. Very fine and rare.
