Franked with a Victoria 6c Queen Victoria imperforate adhesive (tied by barred cancel) and rated “1d” handstamp in red. Endorsed “per Royal Charter”. Light creases affect top of stamp, else fine overall. Written-up on two pages, one of which gives an overview of “Clipper Packet Mail from Australia, 1855-57”. 368 CVR   image1862 Folded Cover to Halifax, Nova Scotia, franked with a United States 5c red brown Jefferson (Scott #75, U$700 on cover) tied by a circular “PAID” in bars, addressed to Halifax, Nova Scotia, with an OCT.31.1862 "U. STATES / HALIFAX” hooded c.d.s. receiver, next to an OCT.29 “BOSTON BR.PKT” transit c.d.s. The cover also has a “CTS 10” handstamp and is endorsed “Pr. Asia”. The docketing inside refers to Cuba, and so it can be assumed that the cover traveled from Cuba to Boston by private vessel, then by Cunard steamer “Asia” to Halifax (departed Boston OCT.29 and arrived OCT.31), rated Paid 5c for the US postage and 10c due in Halifax. 369 CVR 18 image1864 Folded Letter from Cuba to the United States, mailed from Manzanulo, Cuba on DEC.20.1864 (very fine c.d.s. free strike) to New York City, via Havana (DEC.20 transit on back) with a large circular “STEAMSHIP / 10” handstamp. The letter is franked with a ½ real green imperforate, nicely tied by an oval grid cancel. Vertical cover crease goes through stamp, and there are some pencil notations, else very fine and clean.
