311 CVR   imageTwo Interesting Calgary, Alberta Hotel Covers, the first was mailed from Toronto to Calgary in 1902, and received a forwarding address label by the Alberta Hotel to Brandon Man., then redirected again to Winnipeg. Back shows a Winnipeg & Moose Jaw RPO. Second cover is from 1906 and shows a “Calgary Hotel / Calgary N.W.T.” corner card addressed to Moncton, NB. Both covers have Calgary duplex cancels (from two different instruments). Very fine.

314   image1912 Calgary, Alberta Missing Article Enquiry Official Form, dated JAN.6.1912, this is a scarce Form 129 A. 35,000-30-3-11. The form is filled-out indicating that a roll containing plans and notes which had been mailed on DEC.12.1911 at Fort Steele BC has gone missing. 316 CVR 3 image3d Green Imperforate on 1860 Cover from St John’s to King's Cove, mailed St John’s on SEP.13.1860 (fine despatch free strike in red) to King's Cove (SEP.14 receiver on front), franked with a 3d green imperforate (1857 issue), not tied but belongs as there are no other rate markings. The earliest known date for the use of the second (1860) printing of this stamp is March 18, 1861, which makes this the first printing. Tear on back flap, else a fine cover with a scarce franking.

317 CVR 33 image1870 3c Vermilion on Domestic Letter, mailed from St. John’s on MAY.18.1873 (according to owner, as the date is very light) to Fortune Bay, franked with a 3c vermilion Widow Weeds (Scott 33, US$625 on cover) tied by a cork-inside-broken circle cancel. Top of back flap missing, else very fine and a scarce franking. Owner refers to "Sam Whaley’s Newfoundland 1865-1879, the New York Printings, a cover study" (page 79) which discusses the use of this stamp on cover, and which helped establish the date.
