233   imageOriginal Post Office Handstamp from STROUD / ONT. a steel broken circle without indicia, with short wooden handle, a.k.a. a "thumper". Although Stroud is known to have used 4 of these instruments from 1884 to 1926, it would appear that by simple deduction of sheer wear this could be the first one, recorded used from 1884 to 1904. The other three are recorded used from 1910 to 1914, 1914 to 1920 and there is only one strike known of the 4th, in 1926. (Scan 1) (Scan 2) (All Scans) (All Images)

234 CVR 15, 17b, 37 image1861-1878 Three Chatham C.W. Overall fine. Chatham Berri duplex postmarks are notoriously difficult to find reasonably well struck, and are often poor impressions, despite their 18 years of use. 235 CVR/PC 15/108 imageAdvanced Collection of Ridgetown (Kent County) Postmarks, all neatly written-up exhibit style on 12 pages. The postmarks studied include the double broken circle, broken circle, c.d.s., and duplex. Each postmark is described in detail, which includes earliest and latest dates for each, and we counted 4 ERD in the collection, plus other postmark interest, such as RPO, etc. The collection includes 18 covers and one card, noting an 1882 5c SQ cover to England, a 1890 3c SQ + 5c RLS registered cover plus another SQ registered cover, 6 illustrated advertising covers, and more. Very nice overall quality. A lovely collection which would be difficult to duplicate. The card has two file holes, sill a very desirable and elusive flag cancel (Lingard notes "10 to 15 examples"), as it is recorded used only between SEP.3 and SEP.9, 1896, and in his exhibit, Larry Paige wrote that only 15 examples are known.
