15 CVR   image1797 (June 17) Folded Letter from Detroit to Connecticut, datelined inside by the writer Daniel Bissell, addressed to John Wiles, a merchant in East Hartford, Connecticut. The letter entered the U.S. mails at Philadelphia, was rated "17" manuscript and dated July 25 by Franklin mark. Mailed during the period of Canadian control of Detroit, written in Fort Detroit, while in the Northwest Territory, and less than a year following the withdrawal by the British from the fort. Edge and fold faults, still a very fine early usage. A simple online search on Bissell reveals a very interesting life and career.

16 CVR   image1801 Québec Ship Letter to England, datelined inside AUG.14.1801 and mailed with a very fine strike of the crowned “SHIP LETTER / QUEBEC” double oval (difficult to find these on outgoing mail, usually used on incoming) to Birmingham, England, via London (SEP.23 transit in red on back), endorsed “Pr. H. M. S. Eurydice". Very fine, and mounted on a well written-up page giving a full account of the rates and the ship it crossed on. Ex Steinhart.

17 CVR   image1801 Niagara (U.C.) Straightline Cancel on Folded Cross-Border Cover, addressed to New York City and rated "25" (cents) manuscript, the front shows a very fine strike of "NIAGARA, Aug." (with the day "20" added by pen, year confirmed by docketing on back). A very fine example of this rare postmark, the office was established in 1797 as a convenience to handle U.S.-bound letters, the office forwarded mail on a biweekly basis to Fort Niagara (in the U.S.) which was less than a mile away across the Niagara River. Ex Meyer and "Dubois".

18 CVR   image1801 Québec City Folded Letter to Scotland, mailed from Québec (large oval crown "Ship Letter / Quebec" in black) to Kincorth (near Aberdeen), with NOV.23.1801 partial Bishop mark on back and NO/26 receiver in red on front. A very fine early Trans-Atlantic letter.

20 CVR   image1818 Niagara (U.C.) "Belt Buckle" on Folded Letter To England, mailed JUN.11.1818 (Niagara / U. Canada "belt-buckle" in black) to London (AUG.1 receiver on back) through Québec and Liverpool, with boxed "Liverpool / Ship Letter" handstamp next to a tiny "Paid." handstamp, both in black. Some staining, still an interesting early Trans-Atlantic letter with a very fine strike of the scarce Niagara postmark.
