847 On piece, front, etc. imageGold Coast: Third Ashanti Expedition, 1900 (July) front from sailor’s concessionary rate envelope to Devonport endorsed “From K Morell E.R.A H.M.S Curacoa/Cape Coast Castle”, countersigned initials by commanding officer and franked G.B. 1d. lilac tied by “466” barred oval upon arrival and with Liverpool “26 JY 00” Paid packet c.d.s. The fort at Kumasi was attacked on Apr. 29 and a rescue party of 700 arrived in June. Many of the besieged escaped and arrived at Cape Castle on July 10. A second relief force arrived on July 15.
