C.EST. de N. mark applied to foreign letters arriving by ship, and the postage of 20 reis, as it was a letter sent from Belém. It also bears traces of the sepia mark of the "Port of Belém Health Center." On the reverse, inscribed by Guard Major

Portugal Pre-philately. Letter written in London on April 16, 1851, paying the packet postage of 1/2 to
Porto, where it arrived on April 28. The postage applied in Porto was 40 reis, application of the Law of 20/4 for the amount of 20 reis. From reading the mark, it appears that the application of the Law was 25 reis.(Image 1)
