1039 imageSouth West Africa. The Issued Stamps. 1924 (Dec.)-27 (Feb.) Settings VI and VIa. This issue was overprinted in complete sheets of 240 and initially with "South West Africa" 16½mm. long on the upper two panes and 16mm. on the lower two panes. This order was subsequently reversed. For printings from 8 November 1926 all four panes had the 16½mm. measurement. Setting VIa. 1d. blocks of four with Swakopmund and Windhoek datestamps, the latter with missing year slug, 2d. block of four with Hofmeyr datestamp, 4d. interpanneau block of four (unusual) with two part Tsumeb datestamps, 1/3d. and 10/- blocks of four with Walvis Bay and Windhoek datestamps, all but the 4d. centrally applied strikes; a fine group. A group of twelve hand-painted essays by Bradbury Wilkinson on artist's thick paper mounted on grey board (155mm. and x120mm.) with champhered edges and each with Designed by/ Bradbury Wilkinson & Co. Ltd. label affixed to the mount at lower left, comprising ½d. and 1d. in near to issued colours, 2d. in near to issued colours though with the vignette for the 6d. with "approved - denomination to be 6d. (sixpence)", 3d. in colour and design later used for the 1/- with "approved - denomination to be 1/- (one shilling)", 4d. in colours and design used for the 2d. with "approved - denomination to be 2d. (twopence)", 6d. in colour and design of 4d. with "approved - denomination to be 4d. (fourpence)", 1/- in purple and blue with the vignette used for the 3d. with "approved - denomination to be 3d. (threepence)", 1/3d., 2/6d., 5/- and 10/- in near to issued colours and designs, all with details picked out in Chinese white, pencil notations and comments on the reverse with each proof showing oval "director posts & tels./ 11 oct. 1930/ windhoek" handstamp in violet; some minor peripheral staining to some of the mounts, otherwise a very fine and unique assembly of exhibition quality and superb.
