1065 Obl Hellrigl #34, a imageHellrigl #34, 1917 ½ Orange vermilion on native paper, imperforate, tete-beche pair, setting 6, stunning used block of 54 of this very rare issue, this is nearly a full sheet lacking only the top row and the first horiz. pair at left in the second row, positions 11-16/57-64, neat light Birganj telegraph cancel on each block of four, there are a number of constant plate flaws and the bottom left stamp is an inverted cliche producing an exceedingly rare tete-beche pair of which less than a dozen exist, attractive lighter color and an especially clear impression for this, full large to extra-large margins all around, normal minor wrinkles, very fine and an exceedingly rare partial sheet. There are no complete sheets known of the Half Anna Orange Vermilion. This large used partial sheet of 54 is the largest known multiple mint or used. Historically this block plus the second largest multiple of 40 of the top portion of the sheet (see next lot) are very important as they make the plating of setting 6 possible. This is a wonderful exhibition piece and one of the most important of classic Nepal's rarities known; ex-Haverbeck (Scott #11, a; $21,600.00+; S.G. #35, a; £18,900*; catalog values are for 54 used singles, the rare tete-beche pair being unpriced in Scott and Stanley Gibbons). 1066 Obl Hellrigl #34, a imageHellrigl #34, 1917 ½ Orange vermilion on native paper, imperforate, tete-beche pair, setting 6, the striking used block of 40 being over a half sheet consisting of the top five rows of the sheet, positions 1-8/33-40, contained in this impressive block are the two adjacent inverted cliches in positions 6-7 producing the incredibly rare tete-beche pairs, contains other constant plate flaws including the flattened bottom on inverted cliche position 7, clear and well struck Birganj telegraph cancels, the color of this block is brilliant and intense on fresh paper, margins are adequate to large nearly all around, just into the frame of one stamp at bottom right, a very fine and a beautiful multiple. This rare block is the second largest multiple of this rare ½a Orange vermilion mint or used. Together with the above block of 54 above they make the only possible complete reconstruction of setting 6. Perhaps of even more significance is the adjacent inverted cliches in positions 6-7 that make a block of four possible with two tete-beche pairs. This is to our knowledge the only known multiple with this unique block. A very handsome block for exhibition purposes; ex-Haverbeck (Image) Est. $3,000-4,000
