739 c   image"Missent To St Vincent" straight-line handstamp, on September 12, 1912 envelope from Freiburg, Germany, via Cherbourg addressed to Grenada, additionally tying the "Germania" 20pf, this mail being erroneously forwarded to St. Vincent, from where it was redirected to Grenada, where the tax hexagonal marking and the postage due 1d where applied, the latter very slightly obscuring the instructional St. Vincent marking, all on front, showing St. Vincent and Grenada c.d.s.'s on back; vertical crease not affecting the frankings; one of just three usages recorded and a most rare combination of postmarks and adhesives; ex-Messenger. 744 OS   St. Vincent used collection, an advanced assembly mounted on album pages, on the first page illustrating a 1810 colored map of the Island, including a wide range of shades and duplicates in the early issues, some multiples, occasionally better cancellations with few abbreviated village examples of "GB/40c" accountancy handstamp, commencing with eight plate proofs for some early issues, first issue 1d in strip of four, three 6d, 1862-68 perf. 11-12½ 1s (trimmed perfs.), six 4d, three 1864-66 1s. perf. 14-16, two 1866 1s perf 11-12½x14-16, four examples of each of the three 1869 perf. 11-12½ values, three 1872 1s perf. 11-12½, 1881 surcharged ½d on half 6d with R.P.S. certificate, 1881 perf. 11-12½ 4d with seven examples including one pair, 1885-93 issues with specimens, 1899 set of nine used and additionally represented with overprinted "Specimen", 1902 set with two examples of the 5s, 1904-11 set of nine including the £1 accompanied by R.P.S. certificate, 1907-08 issues with specimens, 1913-17 set of 13 used, War Tax issues including some covers with two formula envelopes of which one with scarce village c.d.s. of Barroullie, 1938-47 perf. set of 15 specimens, three pages dedicated to forgeries from the early issues, etc; a very interesting lot featuring a very good basis for an advanced collection, in predominantly very fine condition, viewing highly recommended. 745 Oc   imageVillage Usages Assembly, Abbreviated and Extended Datestamps, the highly interesting balance of the collection, cleanly mounted on album pages, including stamps exhibiting abbreviated types -mainly Q.V. issues-, with BAR (4), BEQ (11), BI (2), CA (13), CH (3), CO (8), CUM (1), K (7), L (4), MES (4), RAB (9), ST (6), UE (1), extended-village small types including Barrouallie, Bequia, Biabou, Bridgetown, Buccament (rare), Calliaqua, Canouan, Chateaubelair, Colonarie, Cumberland, Georgetown, Layou, Mesopotamia, Rabacca, Stubbs, Union State, "St-Vincent/C" provisionally used at Peruvian Vale, larger types with New Ground, rare New Adelphi diameter 23.5mm. on KEVII ½d being one of nine stamps known, Orange Hill, etc, modern issues with mainly philatelic usages from Arnos Vale to Union Island; the collection is notably enriched by various dozens of covers of which 36 bearing late Q.V. or K.E.VII issues, also including some few attractive registered formula envelopes, with remarkable usages as Barrouallie small c.d.s on one of the just four inland mails recorded, small Canouan c.d.s. on two items, etc; generally fine-very fine with some faults in the early Q.V. issues as usually found, a very scarce and very difficult to duplicate advanced assembly on St. Vincent village datestamps, representing a good and quite comprehensive basis to expand, this field being of great significance and desirability in the St. Vincent collection. 753 c   image1842 "Turks Islands" manuscript marking on folded cover to London, rated "4" and "1/-", showing on reverse the manuscript marking of origin and arrival c.d.s. for 28 May; ex-Ludington.In January 1842 the R.M.S.P.Co. established a bimonthly West Indies mail service using Grand Turk as the distribution point for its branch services. This service was discontinued in October of the same year because of the generally unsuitable conditions in the anchorage. No post office was opened in Grand Turk until December 11, 1854. The manuscript markings were written on packet letters in transit and sorted at Grand Turk. (Image) Est. $400-500
