1261   imageJEBBA 1900 - EARLIEST KNOWN COVER WITH MANUSCRIPT CANCELS: 27 Apr. 1900 registered cover addressed to Stanley Gibbons in London. Franking of ½d, 1d, 2d & 2½d adhesives. There is an error of date on three of the stamps - the March dates are incorrect as the 'new' stamps did not arrive in Northern Nigeria until 4 Apr. 1900. The cover is not addressed by Lugard himself but probably by his Personal Secretary, H.C. Gollan, though the stamps are almost certainly cancelled in Lugard's handwriting. Attractive item. (Image)
